Ok, so we are dealin with the 420a motor...
When you pop the hood do you adjust or mess with anything before you get it to start again? This problem could go so many directions that I can't even think where to start with it...

Dead battery. If its the crankin noise I am thinking of anyway, that sorta "heavy clicking" noise anyway? Heres what you should do... bring it to an Autozone or something and have them test it (I think they do it for free). If its bad, replace it and your problem should be solved. If its good though, charge it and maybe have a friend follow you on a drive. If it dies again, your alternator is bad. Good luck dude, let us know if that helps.

Its a typical DSM joke. Cause these cars seem to develope the strangest problems with no cause it seems like. lol
Did you take it to Autozone yet to have it tested?

Take off the battery cables and use sandpaper or a terminal brush and clean everything up. It sounds like there could just be some build up/corrosion on the terminals or the inside portion of the cable clamps. Get it all cleaned up good and shiny and put em back on there, tighten em up good and it might fix your problem if thats all it is...
