this car has been a great car up until the past two summers. im fixin it up for my brother in law who is gonna start driving soon. its got 149k on it, and runs great except when it doesnt. usually only affects it on hot days, if i drive it same distance at night it doesnt quit. so i think its a thermal problem of some sort. check eng light indicates multiple cyl mysfires. its got :
new fuel pump
new fuel pressure regulator,
new ignition coil pack
new plugs and wires.
if i let it set for half hour or so after it dies it will start and run again and not do it again until another 30-40 min long highway drive.
any other suggestions?

cylinder misfires? have you checked to see if its overheating at all? if its not, how aboutthe distributor.. while its still hot, try disconnect a spark plug wire, hook it toa spare plug and see if all of the plugs are firing (or get one of those cool plug checkers) but its prolly best to check, cuz it might be firing but weakly..

With my '98 that was the symptom of the crankshaft position sensor going bad. She would start up good when cold, and run for awhile and then die and not restart until cold. I could not code her cold, only right after she died and engine hot.

well, its not overheating at all.
and of course we know theres not a distributor problem seeing as how there isnt one. like i said it has new plugs and wires and the coil pack (distributorless system)
i was hoping i could post in this area so someone with knowledge of this actual car can help, not just general car advice.

Here is the best advice I have, get her running and drive to the nearest Auto Zone and get the car coded (free), if she shows nothing, let her idle until she dies and then recode, in my case the car had to die and then be coded, right then to show a fault.

autozone shows the same thing i posted above. multiple cylinder misfires.
next?

UPDATE: as suggested above i replaced my crankshaft position sensor (the one from autozone required a new connector and there wasnt much room to splice it in but now its done). it seems to be ok so far. it ran at about 2k rpm in the driveway for 40 min while i cleaned my garage and yesterday it wouldnt do that for more than 15 min w/o dying. took it for a short drive and maybe, just maybe its fixed. the old sensor was cracked once i got it out and the end looks like its worn through so i think even if its not my problem i didnt hurt anything blowing 65 bucks to try.
