2002 headlights

I've read on here how one goes about replacing headlights, but saw nothing specific to 2002 model year. Anything special I need to know? I'm also wondering what the replacement bulbs are? Are they a standard items or must I get them from a dealer? I'm asking since this is my sister's car and she lives a long ways away. I'll get a chance to do this, but not a lot of time so I want to be ready ahead of time with the proper parts. Any lessons learned would be great to know ahead of time.
