Purge Valve

I am pulling a code 31 o my 1996 Caravan with 3.3 V6. And I would guess that with 113,000 miles on her,it is not unrealistic to assume the valve is bad. My question is what effect, other than occasional smell of raw gas, if any would I notice as to starting or running with a bad valve (yes I am going to replace it).
