We bought this car and the person we bought it from lost the keys and they had busted up the steering column I guess thinking they could bypass the security instead of having a 30.00 key made.....This is the second column we have put in it...We found the exact year and bought one from the salvage yard and it came with the key (key is good, worked on car it came out of). You go to turn the key on and you can hear the fuel pump buzz and that's it...the car won't even crank. When you take the key out the security light stays on. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to go about fixing it. Do not have the key fob either. Any help aprecciated. Thank you.

I can olmost gaurentee that its the wrong key, there are resistors in the key 15 diffrent ones and the ECM is the one to read it. I think the new colum/key is wrong because you still have old ECM(ive changed my ecm and still had my old key work, so thats a theory). but i could be wrong. there is a way to bypass the VATS, i bet a locksmith could test it. the problem you described is deff the vats system not allowing you to start the car.

The ECM/PCM has nothing to do with recognizing the PassKey resistance on a '95 LeSabre. The VATS module reads the resistance, energizes the start enable relay, and sends a signal to the ECM to allow injector pulses.

Provided everything is installed correctly, your new column will work just fine once you insert a key with the same resistance as your original key. That means you'll have to measure the resistance of the old key, and cut new keys patterned after the replacement column keys but on a key blank with your OLD resistance pellet. Dealerships get about $30 for replacement keys. The locksmiths I use get about $8 for replacement keys. You decide.

so in theory, we could take the module out of the car we took the column out of that we knew worked in that car, and put it in this one so the column matches the module and it should work...? we don't have the key that came in the original column in the car that was busted. The people lost it, that's why they was trying to break past the system....real bright huh.....30.00 could have let them keep the car and make it run.....:grinyes:
so that's when we put the columns in it and didn't work....we'll change that module and let you know if it works or not....
