3t60/4t60

I have a 90 cultass ciera. It has a 3.3L with a transmission I am having a hard time Identifying. It has 1-2-D and D w/a cirlcle around it. I am thinking it is a 4T60 TRannny, but others are telling me it is a 3T60. I do know it is not the E option. My problem is is that I just fixed a tranny line leak, and serviced the tranny (Pan was pretty much free of Debris). I ran it for a little under 100 miles, and it ran fine(infact a bit better than usual). It will not shift out of low gear. IT will shift into reverse and when in Drive it does roll. There is no loss of power. Short of rebuild or replace, I replace the modulator. There an adjustment screw in the vacuum tube. If this must be adjusted, how many turns do I use to adjust to get the proper adjustment? PLEASE HELP :screwy:

You probly have the 3t40 though....

And I wouldnt make any adjustments to that modulator.
You probly need to take it to a trans shop to have it properly diagnosed, but it doesnt sound good from your description.

If you have the OD (D with a circle around it), you will have the 4 speed tranny.

Look at the bottom of the pan. It should say what tranny it is. I think with yours being a 90 it will say 4T60, or 440-T4.

If you replaced the modulator, you will need to adjust it. You old one should be a big gray one. The new one is usually small, and gold.

To adjust it, you need a small flathead screwdriver.

Just pull off the vacuum line, and the adjuster screw is in there. You kinda just have to guess, and tighten or loosen then drive the car, but this is what I do.

With the car RUNNING, TIGHTEN the screw until you hear the tranny pump start making noise. Then back it down a FULL TURN.

That ususally sets it to about DEFAULT in the stock setup.
