Digital Speedometer

We have a 1992 Lincoln Continental with digital speedometer. The lights come on every now and then. One time you can crank it and it will work but the next time it won't. It is just blank. The whole section fuel, mph, exc.

I was wonder what my be causing this?

I was wonder what my be causing this?

There's been some success with removing the cluster assembly and cleaning the ribbon wire contacts with a pencil eraser.

Other folks found the cluster to be bad. Some of those tried swapping 'em with wrecking yard unknowns to no avail, and others have found online services that will send a rebuilt unit for a few hundred $$.
