I have a 1985 Camaro Z28 with a 305 in it and a 5 speed tranny. I would like to know is it possible to put a 350 motor in it. If it is what all will i have to change out from the camaro? Will my tranny, drivshaft and everything else work. The 350 motor would be coming out of a 1985 elcamino. Would the mounts be the same and everything or would they have to be changed?

1985 El Caminos didnt come with a 350 engine option they came with a 262 v-6 or a 305 v-8.
Get the casting numbers off the engine block you plan to use to find out what year it was made and what kind of power difference it will make. It may not be worth the swap depending on what 350 the donor car has.
If your state expects it to pass emissions you may have your work cut out for you. It wouldnt be too hard to make the switch as in everything will bolt in and line up without too many modifications, but wiring it and making it pass an emissions test is a different story. The hoses to the power steering and a few other simple things may need changed or altered to fit.

305 and 350 are externally identical. Plus i don't see any problem in using the smog equipment off the Z28's 305. :dunno:
BUT, I also second the motion, unless the 350 is of the performance variety, the only thing you'll accomplish is occupy your time for a weekend diong the swap. :2cents:

One more thing, If the 350 turns out to have the plus side of 300HP i would do the swap in an instant, but the stock 5 speed standard trans you have is a no-no and will have to be changed. If the 350 has more than 350HP same goes for the transmission plus the stock rear end your car has will be on borrowed time.

I went up there today and looked at the motor and i tool my frind with me he brought this book that broke down the casting number come to find out the actual motor is a 305:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: . So now i have to either find other 350 motor which is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack here in ohio. I also have a 1996 Camaro V6 with 169,534 miles on it so the engine probably won't last much longer. So I'm debating on possible changing out that motor to something bigger when it goes. What are some possible swaps ?? I mean would it be hard to put a LT1 or LS1 in it?? It doesn't matter about emmision because my state did away with the e-check thing thank god:grinyes: . So any comments on it would be greatly helpful

all i have to say to that is if you do go from a v6 to a v8, you will need a transmission, and i believe the drive train and rear end would need to be changed as well,

What? 350's aren't hard to find anywhere, we got any Alaskan members yet? I'm sure they'd have a much more difficult time, but still not hard. :disappoin

You'd need a transmission, rearend, PCM, complete wiring harness and a whole lot of spare time to swap it all over.
