trany prob need help new member

well the car starts fine but wont get in to gear, unless i rev the rpm to 5000 and keep it there the car will slowly move forword till the gear catches than the car wont get passed 3000 rpms and sometimes the gear will slip out while i drive. i think it a trany problem but i have no idea how to check it or replace it. help me please!!!!!:banghead:

Welcome to AF, in the future post the year of car, the trans is done, assuming it is full of fluid? Even if it wasn't after the 5k rev bit it's done now! The trans will have to be overhauled or replaced, not a job for a dyer.

Realistically this job requires an engine supports,a trans support jack and reasonable mechanical backround, tools, and access to tech info, again not a dyer job for most.

I Agree with Max, rev'n to 5k did it in if it was possible to save it. Also this is not a DIY job unless your very mechanicly inclined.
