83 944?

I am lookin into buying a 1983 944. But im not sure what to look for as trouble signs. The car sat the last 2 years in a garage and fires right up still. A friend of mine drove it says it has lotsa power still runs good. needs a new shifter tho(5speed) Said he heard a noise from rear end? maybe no grease in diff.? interior is rough will need fixed outside is good for abouts $2,500 I dont know if this is good deal or someone getting rid of a lemon. any advice on what to look for as for trouble spots?
