02 Buck Rendezvous Side Mirrors-Auto Tilt

It seems my passenger side mirror is malfunctioning. When I shift out of reverse into drive the mirror doesn't return back to it's normal positioning. It sounds like the gears inside the mirror are skipping and that is causing it to be "off".

I can always buy a new one or try and find a used one, but does anybody else have any other suggestions? I've tried to find one in a junkyard in west/southwest michigan but thats next to impossible. I can only imagine the cost of new one...OUCH. The driver side is fairing to well either.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Our 03 RDV doesn't have the Parallel Park Assist feature, but my Park Avenue does.

Occasionally, on the Park Avenue, the mirror stays directed at the curb instead of returning to its original position. I only happens once in a great while, but I suspect it is a problem in the computer (BCM?), not in the mirror.

The RDV, on the other hand (without the Parallel Park Assist feature) has a problem with the mirror motor. When you adjust the mirror, it clicks and tries to move, but doesn't usually get far...as if there was someone holding the mirror face in place while the motor tries to adjust it. This is a problem in the mirror itself. When we first bought the car a couple of years ago, it did the same thing and we had the mirror replaced...now it's doing it again.

So if the mirror appears to be trying to move, I would suspect that the motor is going bad. If there appears to be no attempt to move the mirror, it just sits there...I would suspect it is not your mirror that is the problem.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the clarification. I was thinking it was the motor inside the mirror itself, but neglected to mention it in the post. Regardless, the only solution would be to replace the side mirror assembly. I don't think GM just sells the motor by themselves

It would seem like a reasonable expectation...that you can replace just the motor...without having to replace the entire assembly. It seems unnecessary to have to have a new mirror housing painted to match your car just because the motor went bad :shakehead . Perhaps there is a way to remove the housing and then remove the motor from the housing. Might be worth looking into.

Eventually, we'll have to replace ours (again), as well. Since the wife has hit the opening to the garage a few times with the mirror while parking the car, our mirror housing has some new racing stripes  . I'll want the whole thing changed out.

I am in the same situation and just picked up a assembly from the wrecker but I am stumped as how to get the motor out without breaking it.
Does anyone have service diagrams on R&R the mirror motors?
