I have a question on the removal of the camshaft carrier with the lifters coming off with it. Is there some kind of special way to remove them
Any suggestion would be appreciated

I've never had one apart, so I don't totally understand the question...I assume you are using a manual, and what you wanna do is not covered?

If not, here's help:

Fig. 5: Camshaft and related components-3.4L engine

LEFT SIDE (FRONT)

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Properly drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
Remove the left side cam carrier as follows:
Disconnect oil/air breather hose from cam carrier cover. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from plugs, then remove the rear spark plug wire cover.
Remove the cam carrier cover bolts and lift OFF cover. Remove gasket and O-rings from cover.
Remove the secondary timing belt by removing secondary timing belt actuator and tensioner assembly and sliding belt from pulleys. in. (5.5mm) fuel line hose for the intake valves.
Remove the exhaust crossover pipe and torque strut.
Remove the torque strut bracket from the engine.
Unfasten the cam carrier mounting bolts and nuts, then remove the cam carrier.
Remove cam carrier gasket from cylinder head.
Remove the 6 lifter hold-down hoses. Remove the lifters.
Install the cam hold-down tool J-38613 or equivalent, in place and remove the cam sprockets.
Remove the cam carrier end caps and retainer plate bolts and plate.
Remove camshaft hold hold-down tool, then carefully remove camshaft out the back of the carrier. To install:

Coat the camshaft lobes and journals with clean engine oil and install the camshaft into carrier. Install retaining plate and bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm). Install the cam carrier end caps.
Install the cam sprocket(s).
Adjust cam timing and install cam hold-down tool.
Lubricate the lifters with clean engine oil, then install them into their original positions.
Install the lifter hold-down hoses to cam carrier.
Install the left side cam carrier as follows:
Install a new gasket on cam carrier to cylinder mounting surface. -38613 or equivalent, to the carrier assembly.
Install the cam carrier to the cylinder head. Install mounting bolts and nuts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
Remove the lifter hold-down hoses and cam hold-down tool.
Install the torque strut bracket to the engine and install torque strut.
Install the engine crossover pipe.
Install the secondary timing belt and cam carrier cover.
Install the spark plug cover and connect the wires.
Connect the breather hose to cam carrier cover.
Add fluids as required, then connect the negative battery cable. Start engine and check for leaks.RIGHT SIDE (REAR)

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Properly drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
Remove the right side cam carrier as follows:
Remove the intake plenum and right timing belt cover.
Tag and disconnect the right spark plug wires.
Disconnect the air/oil separator hose from the cam carrier cover.
Unfasten the cam carrier cover bolts, then lift the cover OFF. Remove the gasket and O-rings from cover.
Remove the front engine lift hook.
Unfasten the cam carrier mounting bolts, then remove the cam carrier.
Remove the cam carrier gasket from cylinder head.
Remove 6 lifter hold-down hoses, then remove the lifters.
Install cam hold-down tool J-38613 or equivalent, and remove the cam sprocket.
Remove the cam carrier end caps and retainer plate. Remove cam hold-down tool, then carefully slide the camshaft out the rear of the carrier. To install

Lubricate the camshaft lobes and journals with clean engine oil and carefully slide into the cam carrier. Install the retainer plate and bolts and tighten bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
Install the cam carrier end caps and cam sprockets.
Install the camshaft carrier hold-down tool and adjust cam timing.
Lubricate the lifters with clean engine oil, then install them into their original positions.
Attach the lifter hold-down hoses to cam carrier.
Install the right side cam carrier, as follows:
Install new gasket on cam carrier to cylinder mounting surface.
Install cam hold-down tool J-38613 or equivalent, to the carrier assembly.
Install the cam carrier to the cylinder head. Install the mounting bolts and nuts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
Remove the lifter hold-down hoses and cam hold-down tool.
Install the torque strut bracket to engine, then install the torque strut.
Install the engine crossover pipe and engine lift hook.
Install the secondary timing belt and cam carrier cover.
Connect the spark plug wires, then install the cover.

the only real problem i was having was this step.

Install 6 sections of fuel line hoses under the camshaft and between the lifters. This will hold the lifters in the carrier. For this procedure use 5/16 in. (8mm) fuel line hose for the exhaust valves and 7/32in. (5.5mm) fuel line hose for the intake valves.

i will be doing this later this week
thnks for the info
