On June 28th i bought a 00 monte carlo LS. 3.4L not even 2 weeks later the problems started....feels like something in steering or steer shaft is loose, bad lifter noise on start up, rpms will bounce back and forth from 800 to 1200, but the big problem....when accelerating only, going over a dip in the road, turning a corner it will vibrate. Makes me think something in drivetrain. Not a small vibration either, I just paid 9,000 for it with 72,000 miles feel like i made a huge mistake...can anybody tell me what the problem could be?? thanks alot...

The steering issue is most likely a rack and pinion or a lower steering column shaft. Both are fairly common problems on Monte's. The lifter noise is normal for the 31/3.4 GM engines, but you may want to check the oil for signs of coolant contamination. The 3.4 is infamous for bad intake gaskets, and they will fail at the ends and leak coolant into the oil. Visually check the seam between teh lower intake manifold and the block/heads for any signs of coolant seepage. If present, get the intake gaskets replaced ASAP before the coolant in the oil washes the crank bearings and/or allows the engine to overheat blowing a head gasket.

In response to the vibration when you turn, or go over a bump. That is your wheel bearings and you will need a new wheel hub. Same thing happened to me. When you go over a bump, does it feel like something is grinding sortof, and when you say you turn a corner, does it get worse when you accelerate? Those were my symptoms and that would be my guess.
