I have a 1997 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.2 engine. The timing chain broke last year. I payed to have it repaired. It worked fine for a couple of weeks and then it started making a ticking noise. The mechanic didnt replace the timing chain tensioner, so I figured that it had gone bad and needed to be replaced. I'm currently taking some automotive classes so I decided to replace it myself. The timing marks didn't aling correctly but decided to remove it anyways. after replacing the timing tensioner i aligned the marks correctly and instlalled everything back on but when i went to turn the car backon it wouldnt start.

the movement of the crank shaft mark is 2:1 with the upper shaft mark so, i think that when you re-adjusted you moved the position 180º, if that happened then you broke the valvs of you engine head. and it will need to be removed
