is thier any way(s) to check obd 2 codes without using a scan tool. i know of using a paperclip/wire to "hotwire" the obd sensor in OBD 1 cars, but i dont know if it works for OBD2

No, you must use a scantool for OBDII. There is no paper clip/voltmeter/whatever check for codes. You need either a code reader or a scantool.

My jeep shows you the codes without a reader(obdII).
