I've been working on getting the ram1500 with 5.2 v8 to get more power, while saving gas, since i bought it 6 months ago. Its a nice truck already with no problems, but i want more!(but who doesnt?)
From stock, this is what i have added- Heartthrob dual exhaust, K&N gen 2 air intake, and a superchip. From that i've went from 11.5 to 12 mpg to 14 to 14.5 mpg and felt a very nice gain in throttle response and hp.
I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas as to what else there is to do. I thought my next step would be a throttle body spacer and new headers, but i dont know much about how effective either of those are. I would appreciate if someone can help me.

don't bother with the throttle body spacer, it won't help.
the point of those spacers is to get the air/fuel to mix better. they do make a difference with throttle body injected, and even carberated engines, however, the dodge magnum engines are multi-port injection. this means that the fuel is injected into the intake manifold just before the intake valve, which is so far away from the throttle body that a spacer won't make any difference.

I am trying to decide on whether to go with a complete K&N filter system or just a K&N replacment filter for the factory system on my '05 4.7 Ram. I wonder how much of the gain you have stated can be attributed to the filter system as compared to the duals or super chip?

Try systhetic oil in the differntial. It seems to give me about 1 mpg more.

removing the tailgate really wont do much. Scientific studies have proven you actually get worse mpg with it off than on.
Like already said the throttle body spacer will do nothing, except possibly look pretty?
