01 not running sometime

We have an 01, about every 4-5 weeks the gas cap light will come on, then the check engine light shortly after. they will stay on for acouple of weeks then when we try to start the car it will not idle, you can hold gas a little and keep it running. If you can drive it for about 5 minutes when this happens it will start running right and all lights go off then wait for cycle to start over again. Any help is appreciated.

Stop by your local auto parts store and ask them if they will scan your OBD-2 car for codes at no charge. Most do. Have them scan it and get the exact codes (something in the form P0123 where 0123 can be other sequence of numbers). Post the codes here and we'll see what we can do.

We could speculate quite a bit, but since your Check Engine Light has been illuminated, there should be a stored code.
