It ran fine last night then when I try to start it it just cranks over and over but no start. I noticed the CEL won't come on when I put the key in like the other lights. What does that mean? Is that what
s causing this? How to fix? If I can't make it to work on tuesday I'm screwed.
SOS!! please help! lol

CEL-(Check Engine Light) BTW... :icon16:

Already searched huh? Did you search the "How to Troubleshoot a No Start XJ" thread that got stickied??? :banghead: :grinyes: :shakehead

It's gonna take some work, but a good bet for an 'all of a sudden' no start condition is the gremlin infested... Wait for it... CPS!!!!

Once again, about 2/3-3/4 of the way down... :disappoin

~Good Luck! yer gonna need it! LOL :p

C'mon Solomon! Sheesh... :runaround:

C'mon Solomon! Sheesh... runaround

Iknow I know Citizen! Denial is fun though! I thought CPS right away, cuz it could explain the random rpm fluctuation on the tach.
What about the no CEL thing though? The light worked fine yesterday; comes on with the rest for a seec when the key is on, but now nothin'. Bulb?
Should I check coil and ICM if equipped?
I suck at electrical stuff!
BTW worst fear cuz of no CEL; PCM poopin' out? Dunno just freakin' out. I appreciate any input though. All I get when I turn the key is na na na na na na na na na nadda darn thing! Thanks . Still searchin' through other forums. Find alot on CPS but nothin' about the light.

Check for spark at the distributor coil then the spark plugs
Check for fuel at the rail

AHA!!! No fuel in rail! Hopin' it's the relay but no electricians open to check it. Oh well, guess
i'll spend the whopping ten bucks for a new one and see if that does it! If not then it's fun time w/ the pump! yeeha!Time to search!
still dunno why the CEL light won't work though.
Any thoughts on it? replace bulb maybe?

Well, I swapped the AC relay w/ the fuel pump relay and nothing. Disconnected the CPS and the pump primed and CEL and all lights went on like normal when turned on! SO, replaced the CPS with a BWD one and said a little prayer. vroooom!! la la la la la la la! Like a sewing machine! Idle even sounds alot smoother.
CPS replacement: total time 17 minutes! Thanks Citizen and Aloha! Stickies kick a$$! In this case my transfer case drop was a BIG help (for once!) LOL:)

Good work on the CPS...just a note to everyone else...known problem.

It is caused by its placement on the transmission bellhousing and the way the harness crosses the transmission and then up at the back of the engine.

X2!!! ^-^ What Bra-Man Said! ^-^

~Watch the wires just get in the way by themselves... There's A~LOT of HEAT all up in there. It will COOK your wires if you've done any work in its area and not secured the leads afterwards! (PS)

Thanks Aloha. Where'd Fred run off to?
