350Z... kill!

so ive always been wanting to race 350s.. i wanted to see how fast those buggers are.. and ive gotta say, im sort of dissapointed. my 120K+ stock SS maro killed one of the 350s.. and not just slowly walking eithier.. by the time i hit 2nd i was a full car length past him..and still walking! we only went to maybe 70 or so.. but i had 3 people in my car (other than me) and he had..himself.

i wanted to race my other friend.. who just bought a 350 but he didnt wanna..and he sold it too so i couldnt race him. he was a cool guy tho, the guy i raced...

he pulled up next to me.. lookied @ my car.. and said..

DAMN i thought my car was faster than that!

i thought so too!! i thought mine was slower..

god.. after this, i REALLY dont wanna sell my maro! but the neon is in SO GOOD CONDITION. <50K miles, and the spark plugs (i just checked) BURN PERFECTLY!!! thats like the first car ive had that burns that clean!! holy shit! lol :P

Yeah, those 350Z's are overrated I think. Aren't they pretty heavy?

ikeyballz
07-15-2007, 09:18 PM
im not sure how heavy those are.. but they're supposed to be rated at ~300hp... i know the torque isnt much..but for the amount of ricers who think they're fast with it, i thought itd be a little faster..

stone_mound_camaro
07-16-2007, 12:34 AM
hahaha 300 horses? yea right...and those are mid 14 sec cars anyway...

2.2 Straight six
07-16-2007, 12:37 AM
i think they have ~280lb/ft.

ikeyballz
07-16-2007, 12:42 AM
serious? then why are they so darn slow... is that torque amount at like high rpms or something?

stone_mound_camaro
07-16-2007, 12:44 AM
yea..its at like 5250 rpms...

ikeyballz
07-16-2007, 02:00 AM
oh..figures. :/ i wished nissan would make better engines nowdays.. the car i learned to drive stick on..when i was 12.. was a 280Z. that thing was hella fun..all these cool gadgets..and then when you pop the clutch.. it does burnouts.. lol

i like the 240Z also.. not so much the skylines..

Awesome sig, Lex.

I've come to the realization that unless your throwing down a lot of clams, none of the new cars are really all that fast. Shit the Z06 was supposed to be like greased lightning I thought, then a client comes in with one and says it runs high to mid 11's. I'd have been impressed if he said low 10's or 9's even, but high to mid 11's?

My 70 does "low 11's" (from the guy I bought it from... showed me slips but wouldn't let me have them... so I guess that really doesn't mean a whole lot, but still) and it's 37 friggin years old.

Nice kill though.

Sure your 70 may beat it in a 1/4 mile, but it wouldn't stand a chance on a circuit. Hell the z06 set the best lap time for a stock production car on nurburing.

True, but we're not in Germany, I don't do street racing, and I only wish I had a chance to actually race professionally.

With the technology advances alone a freaking stock Tiburon could probably eat my Maro on any mild circuit track.

If tried the whole circuit racing deal of course I'd still have my 70, but I'd upgrade the suspension and be right where I need to be if I was going to do some real racing. The aftermarket for 2gen suspension is just getting started, CHP's review of 2 companies (can't remember their names) in the last 6 months or so has me drooling. Just need the spare clams to do it.

You don't have to race professionally to race on a circuit. I borrowed a car trailer to bring my corvette home from a guy who goes to the sebring speedway with his cobra kit car. They space everyone out evenly around the track and you are just out there to see how fast you can go. Your only allowed to pass when the guy in front waves you by. It sounded pretty cool, I'm going to check it out when I get my corvette done.

Why is it that whenever I hear the phrase "pro-touring" I have visions beer pouring into a glass and hotdogs with big heaps of sauerkraut on them? (Makes me hongry).

I'll never race my Maro except on a drag strip... I heard of some guys doing that up in Jersey... If you put it into the wall it's your problem, All the work I'm putting into this thing, I'd probably brake down and do something REALLY stupid like set it on fire if I did drove RD into the wall on a track. I really can't place much faith in a 37 year old suspension to stand up to heavy abuse. At least not until I rebuild it... and now that I've said it, I guess that'll f'ing brake as soon as I get the motor and trans back in it.

I plan to subject my 32 year old susepension to heavy abuse. :dunno:

If you had RD's track record you wouldn't. Of the last 5 times out, towed back 3. Hence the trans rebuild, engine rebuild and total rewire to be followed by new ring and pinion and possibly a suspension rebuild.

Well I haven't driven my car more than 15 feet (the brakes don't work), so yeah I probably will have quite a bit of time and work ahead of me before its ready for the track. It sounds like bucket loads of fun though.

Don't know what movie, for some reason a Michael moore or Wag the Dag comes to mind :dunno:

Search out HotRods archives on pro-touring. They did nice articles on cars like the Year One Camaro that uses all new suspension parts like this. I think there was even a Pro Tour Budget Build at one time.

ill bring us back on topic..my dad worked on some doctors 350Z...it had a supercharger bolted on it..the doctor also had a bran new z06.. I guess the 350Z beat the corvette by about half a car length...(the owner raced them..not my dad)

ikeyballz
07-21-2007, 05:18 PM
if he had both cars how did he race em.. im pretty sure a supercharger, unless done really well will not give over 200hp.. thats the diff between a vette and a 350. the weight is about the same too.

Firebirdlad03
07-22-2007, 10:58 AM
i dunno..one of his friends drove the 350z...but idk how it woulda done it either..this is just a rumor..lol..

07-22-2007, 01:59 PM
lol, didnt u read the thread i put up about 3 month ago about how slow 350's were?? i destroy those things on a regular...the one bad assed one i thought would give me a good run i killed him thinking i was spraying and i never armed the system smh.... they suck! on spray i beat down one with a turbo and it wasnt nice! and dont get the neon keep your ss, its a bad ass car...and i dont know many cars that come out of the box running 10's or 9's lol...the zo6 i wouldnt have ever thought would do it either..maybe a low 11.... hell i just raped a new cobra in a 2004 c5....and its a low 11 car on moter and a mid 10 sec car on spray...and i wanst spraying when i did it..(but it is a 650 hp vette) so just giving u an idea of what u need to the wheels to get a time like that..(not all of the time ) but im sure sum cars with a good setup could do it with less power.

ikeyballz
07-22-2007, 06:16 PM
yeah.. im sure if the 350 was done right tho, it couldve killed a stock z06..

i think anything can kill anything when its not stock.

I think thats what my brother got for a rental when someone slammed into his regal.

Is that the one with the CVT transmission? Or is that the maxima? I can't tell the difference... (my brother had the one with the CVT it was sweet)

Yeah the CVT transmissions are freaking awesome.

ikeyballz
07-25-2007, 03:47 AM
yeh. its interesting how it works.. ever see how a mill changes 'gears'? yeah, thats how a CVT works.. but anyway.. i dont know if i trust it..

but on the other hand, i was in this robotics thing.. where we build basically big remote control cars.. and holy shit, these kids from WPI made a bot using a CVT. it was hella crazy. we were one of the strongest robots in the competition..and when we went up against the CVT powered bot..we got pushed and dragged around like a little baby in a stroller. it was friggin amazing.
