we have gone over this topic many many times. please try searching.
I would say intake and exhaust would be a nice start.

:) Good newbie! Thor likes it when people that ask questions do so in an atleast semi thorough manner. Anyway, heres what I would do if I was in your shoes. But Stevie is right, search before you ask.
0. Maintainance - Change your oil if it needs it, do spark plugs and wires if they are old, etc etc.
1) Catback - eBay brand oughta be fine, after all its just an exhaust. Oh, and 2.5 or 3 inch would work for ya, but if you plan on more power later, go 3".
2) Downpipe - Same shit as with the exhaust.
3) High flow cat or straight pipe
4) K&N Filter
5) Walbro 190 fuel pump
6) Boost guage - I would get one that goes to 30 psi.
7) Manual boost controller - You can end up spending quite a bit on these or none at all. The cheap ones suck ass and the high priced ones are just too high priced. A good balance is a Joe P MBC.
8) Strut braces - Reduce roll and make it a little more sure of itsself in the corners.
9) Short shifter and bushings/bearings - Tightening up your shifting will not add power obviously but it will help you run through the gears quicker.
All that should be pretty easily had for $1500. If you have some left over maybe buy some sweet fuzzy dice and an airfreshener or something.
Edit:
I just forcibly remembered a couple things you probably should do as well.
10) UICP - Upper intercooler pipe
11) BOV - The stocker is a POS to the max. If I were you, I would get a stock 1g BOV, those will be just fine for what you'll be using it for.
