Hi Everyone,

just got my Alero 2000 with roughly 116000km back from a Break Service and they have discovered that the Coil Spring in front on the passanger side is broken.

They have told me that they have never seen this on the Alero. Did anyone have or had broken Coil Springs as well. Is there any TSB out there for this issue???????

thanks for anyones input

Never heard of it happening.
There is no TSB that I have seen, and I've got a pretty good source for them.

thanks for your input, I have researched a little as well about the issue and came up with that it's probably happen because of the weather we have during the winter time and the car can not handle all the salt we have here during the winter time.

I have seen/heard of the rear coil springs on N bodies breaking the ends off.
I think it has to do with the positioning of the spring in the seat or the bearing goes out causing the spring ends to bind and break off.

Someone could have also ran over something going to fast and caused it to break.... Just my :2cents:

I had that happen on my 99. It was the front left spring that broke. I'd noticed a clunking noise when turning. The spring snapped off not far above the top mount. It was about 600 miles from being out of warranty when it happened. The dealer told me that they'd seen it before, but didn't offer any other explanation. I'm in Michigan, so I blamed it on our crappy roads and salt in the wintertime.

Yeah happened to my 2000. Pulled into a parking spot and the best way to describe it was a unspinging thunk sound....not like a ball joint or anything.

Took it around the parking lot zig zagging at slow speeds and as soon as I thought it might be gone there it was again.

Two problems.....well 2 problems on each side....the 2 bearing plates were shot and the springs fell apart at the shop. She's got 120K so hopefully last the rest of the life

Ohio weather.....I guess.......replaced the front struts too, new alignment drives like new now....$900 later

I have a 99 2.4L, both of my front springs have broken on me. Both times it was the strut bearings on. I fixed both myself, it's pretty easy to do.
