Surfer/Giz - found my vibe problem....

definitely not the carrier bearing at all; in fact, after lifting truck up on a lift, carrier bearing itself is still in very decent shape considering the life this truck has lead.

Rear differential fluid - I was actually amazed how GUNKY it was considering we changed it's fluid about 50-55k miles ago. Man it was NASTY!

Milky looking, really dark brown and the smell was....well, similar to pigs feet. I was actually irritated, to say the least, on how bad the fluid was that came out - truly makes me wonder what the hell I used last time for fluid - had to have been something fairly cheap quality.

Any which way, it took in a quart and 3/4 of Valvoline Durablend 80w-90; obviously we weren't able to get all of the old oil out of it, but I think we'll do it again in 2-3 weeks.

SURFER - I'm almost positive I found the vibration issue at 2-3 mph, call me crazy, but I never knew, seeing as I have a 4x2, that our driveshaft has a zerk fitting - guess I never really looked before, (but never had a vibration issue that wasn't related to tires either); anyways you can see where I'm going with this. The driveshaft/yoke area was soooooo dry that it took quite a few ounces of grease to lubricate it.

Took it for a drive - wahla, no vibration, no whining in the rear-end, and no more feeling like the darn emergency brake is stuck. :popcorn:

After seeing that black crap come out of that diffy, the new Tacoma will definitely be swapped to synthetics front/rear, if I wasn't afraid of developing leaks on the Diesel, at it's 90k miles now, it would get them too.

Off to check the zerks on the yota and cummins

Sounds like you've gotten some water in there. If it looks like chocolate milk it usually means quite a bit of water. The durablend should help clean out anyof the rest of the junk. Good call on doing it again, the new fluid should be able to suspend the rest of the old junk. At least you got pretty much all of it. Specs call for 1.8something quarts.

Hope your vibration problem stays away now that everying is greased up.

Funny thing, I always knew to check for these on the other trucks, but never thought the Rodeo would have one. If you find more let me know, I could only find the one.

REMARKABLE difference, it's actually fun to drive again. Drove it around for a good hour today.

Did quite a bit of stuff, actually, her once a year procedures:

Rear diffy, obviously
driveshaft lubrication
cleaned PCV piping/valve
cleaned Throttle body
cleaned TPS
cleaned MAF sensor & air box
changed fuel filter
applied JB weld to a tiny hole in side of muffler

Next week she'll go in for front-end alignment, but I'm just amazed in the difference in the way it's driving/cornering now.

:) There was one of those fitting on the front propellor shaft on dads 92 Rodeo. I know he put oil in it alot more than was called for. When we had to change the clutch we had a hech of a time getting the propellor shaft out. It was frozen even thou it had been oiled more than called for. He ended up tieing it to the log splitter to break it loose when we finally got it out. So you might just want to check to see if it still slides back and forth. :) Andie

I guess that's a question I have for you all; I can only locate the one. I know for a fact there was more then one on my '91 Rodeo, but I don't have it to reference anymore.

The 2nd gens dont have any. Have to take them apart to grease the slip joints and our u-joints dont have grease zerks on the factory ones.

I have no idea how many the gen 1 and 1.5 are supposed to have.

Well, I guess I can't complain too much about having an older Rodeo then you Giz and/or the auto versus stick; seems I've lucked out on some things :lol: .

Gonna crawl back under it when it cools off; just got done taking a 2-3hr tour, if you will, around the city running errands with it. It's still amazing how many heads she turns when she's washed up.

Word of wise, it is probably VERY important in the notion of replacing the stock radiator's around 9-10yrs of age, I'm sure glad I did with the 96F temps over here at my house anyways. Truck's staying 1 notch cooler this summer then it did last summer.

Was running alongside a much newer 2500HD Chevy Silverado (burgundy of course) hauling a 5th wheel down 1-25 South just a half hour ago; he had a gas engine with some type of aftermarket exhaust, real deep and throaty. Man that thing sounded cool! :grinyes: Stayed alongside him all the way to Franktown, his exhaust reminded me of the throaty sound of the old '70 Chevy's.

my 1992 2nd generation trooper has the zerks for both front and rear yokes, and for universal joint.

and ramblin of course it's easy enough to check just jack up the rear wheels and crawl under and turn the shaft and look at all the likely

Trooperbc - I know it's relatively easy to look for the zerks, that's what I'm saying, I can only find the one.

Just lubed that u-joint. It may have been dry as it took the remainder of one tube and an ounce or more of the second tube I put in the grease gun before spitting out some grease at the seal. We'll see if it changes anything. I really think the shudder I got when starting from a stop was the tranny when the engine and tranny were hot. It hasn't happened since topping off the radiator.

i have a 95 rodeo 4x4 and the rear end is vibration when i turn about 25mph what do you think i should do cuzz i don't want to take it to the shop .....
