Replicating wood trim

Hi, just a question on how to replicate wood trim...I remember Veyron or Zoom Zoom had a nice explanataion in one of their threads, but I can't find it now. I remember something about painting one color onto another while it's still wet..or something...any help is appreciated. :)

Using water based acrylics, start with a light color that you would see in the type of wood you wish to replicate. Brush it on the part fairly heavy, then dab a darker wood color around over the light color randomly, then brush gloss clear over the whole part, this will smear the colors together creating the woodgrain effect, and leave a varnished like finish. Because acrylics shrink 300% as they dry, the detail of the part will not be sacrificed. Practice this on a scrap piece of plastic, you'll soon get the look you want.:)

If the paint doesn't work for you, you might want to try wood decals. Detail Master makes 1/24 wood decals in various shades.

I was about to say the same!

A UK company called Fantasy Printshop produces 1/24 scale wood effect decals. They will be at the UK Nationals this weekend if you want me to pick up a sheet?
