Oil drain plug stuck

This morning I went out to change the oil in my 2002 Intrigue and found that the quick lube place that I used last time way over-tightened the drain plug. I worked on it for an hour with a ratchet, box-end wrench and a pair of pliers but all I succeeded in doing was rounding off the corners a little bit.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Step 1 are you sure you are turning it the proper way. Note when under the car and if you place your ratch at 4 oclock you pull down. If you rounded the bolt then I would suggest using vise grips and if that doesn't work then you better take it to a quick lube and have them remove it and make sure you buy a new plug. I have heard of a stuck oil filter but never a stuck oil plug.

I was turning it the right way. I've done it several times before on this car and never run in to this problem before. I'll go get some vise grips and a new plug tomorrow and try that. If that doesn't work I'll take it somewhere. Thanks for your suggestions.

I got it done tonight. I borrowed a pair of vise grips from a friend and got the plug out. I replaced it with a new one and torqued it to the proper 18 ft/lbs. Thanks for your help.

If it can't be fixed with vice grips and duct tape ... it can't be fixed.

Its usually not that somebody used a 3 foot long 1/2 inch drive ratchet to put the drain plug on, its just the heating up and cooling off that eventually seizes it in there. I used to put vaseline on the threads until once it started to back off and leak oil. Now i just make sure it is a bit oily from the oil i just took out.

I am trying the same..change my own oil, but the mechanic boys used a air socket to REALLY tighten the drain plug bolt.
what is the size of this bolt....I thought it was 9/32, or 1/2":banghead::banghead::banghead:
