Your IMRC is probably shot. Check out CEG from now on.

would the imrc cause it to be not all the time but say if you were to keep the car at 3500 rpm for approx 30 sec than put the peddle to the metal and complete hesitation.if you were to turn off the ignition and back on it goes away but will come back intermitent

It is possible for the IMRC to be intermittent. Open up your hood and rev the engine from the throttle body. If the IMRC is working, you should see the secondary linkage move when the revs reach 3750 RPMs. In case you dont know where the linkage is, its located under the throttle body, attached to the lower intake manifold.

The IMRC should open around 3500-4000 rpm. What was the actual code you got?

No. Like I said earlier, the IMRC causes the secondaries to open at 3750 RPM's all the time. Sounds like your IMRC is having intermittent problems.

Temp shouldn't matter. Are you sure its opening at 6k, as in you can actually watch the tack? You may also want to double check that the linkage on the secondaries themselves are still attached. They are known to come undone, the IMRC will still work, but the secondaries wont actually be opening.

I suppose a clogged cat could make the car stumble at high rpms. Hopefully it's not that since the left and right cats(aka pre-cats) aren't a cheap or easy fix.

A clogged cat will definetely hold you back, but I agree with Jason, make sure someone is in the car watching the tach. When my main cat on my 96 SE clogged back when it was naturally aspirated, it took me a whopping 16 seconds to get from 0-60. It was terrible! Power was smooth, but it just took forever. After I got it fixed, it felt like I was driving a sports car....it was all psychological of course.

When I had a bad cat, it had plenty of tq off the line, but once it got into the upper RPM's, it took forever. IMRC is about $150 part from the dealership only. You probably can get a used one on the classifieds on CEG.
