Help!! I had my fuel pumpreplaced on my 99 silvy and now the thing will never measure the right amount of gas that might or might not be in there, I've also noticed it has been getting Horrible mileage lately. I tried cleaning the fuel injectors and noticed a little differnce. When I fill it up I can get around 400 miles to a tank full w/ mostly highway driving, but around town it is just gulping the fuel.If I put 10.00 or 20.00 in it will go to the same spot on the fuel guage? In the past when I filled up w/ the old fuel pump I could count on around 200 miles or more to a half tank, now I fill up and set my trip odo. and get to 200 mi. and it is still reading about 3/4 full? Help!

Sounds like the sending unit is bad. Fuel pump & sending unit are one assembly. If you had it done at a shop recently, I would take it back and ask them to replace it.

Thanks, I kinda figured that, but didn't want to admit the inevitable. My friend put it in and actually had put a new one in{ not sure aftermarket or not}, and it was bad right out of the box. Got it home and the thing started acting up right away, he was telling me not to run it below a quarter tank, that if you do the thing gets real hot and ruins it. I know the factory one got run below a quarter tank numerous times and never had a problem until about 162,000?! I'm wondering if I can take it back to the dealer, I saw in another post where a guy did and he had I think a 2000 w/ some miles on her and they replaced it and charged him 25$. It seems a common problem w/ these trucks. I love the truck and it's been great 'cept for this.

I replaced mine after about 90k. I have also heard not to run it down to E (which I used to do all the time on my old pump), so I am trying to follow that advice. The most important thing that I can tell you is to use an OEM pump, the aftermarket pumps are crap and consistently give people problems. If the dealer didn't install the pump, they will probably charge you full price to replace it.
