My father has a 1997 4runner and the dealership said that it was time to get his timing belt changed. After they gave him an $800 estimate he asked me if i could change it, because i went to Ferris state university for a two year automotive degree. I asked him if the dealership said its an interference engine or not and he said they didnt say. Its a 1997 toyota 4runner SR5 with a 3.4L V6 engine, can anyone tell me if its an interference engine, maybe by a vin number or something, and if i'll run into any problems changing the belt?

Kracker I'm not sure myself to be honest BUT check the Fourth Post of each page, theres one that has the Service Manuals and they cover alot of 4Runners from different years or generations, and I'm sure you would get all the info you need for that. The Post or Thread is called
"Combined Toyota Factory Service Manuals"
it's the 4th one down from the top of each page for This
Toyota 4Runner AutoForum. Just click on it and it's all there.
Good Luck.
