Things to look for when buying a 3rd generation El Camino?

Hi, I use this forum before with great results! I'm going to go look at a '70 El Camino to buy.

How do I tell if the original motor is in the car?

The car is suppose to have a 350 chevy in it with a 5 speed. The car is an "SS", was a 5 speed an option or is this tranny a swap?

In the VIN how can I tell it's a true "SS"?

Being my first El Camino, what should I be on the look out for as far as problem area b(i.e. body, motor, tranny, interior).

Any info will help a lot! Thanks Kevin
