1990 bmw 525 dim lighting problem

my dim lights wont stay on brights are fine but dims go on and off alot making it dangerous on the highway.. we try not to drive it at night because of this problem.. ive tried cleaning relays and moving them around when they are out with no luck... any ideas:banghead:

The most common problem is the Lamp Control Module (LKM) It's a black rectangular box in the underhood fusebox. Some people people have success repairing them, some don't. They are frequently sold used on E-bay and at larger wrecking yards

thank you there are two under there will the lights go out if i remove it??

Safe bet is yes they will. Now hopefully they go back on when you plug it back in.

i removed the box and yes the lights did go out i removed the cover only to find a very clean and dry circut boards linked together ..i blew everything off and including the plug on the car and then sprayed some wd-40 all over everything and they have worked perfect every since...the large black box about 1 inch by 6 or 7 inches has the letters LKM molded into the top of it..thanks for your help....
