my fuel gage always read full so i changed the sending unit and it is still on full what can be the next problem:banghead:

Did you get the right sender? In 97, there are two possibilities due to a mid-year production change. Also, did you replace the entire fuel pump module, or just the fuel level sensor?

just the sending unit and one of the wires the connect to the bottom did not fit so took the one off my old one.:banghead:

This may sound silly. While observing the fuel gauge, wiggle the harness near the connector on the pump. If you see movement, you've got a conductor partially grounded in the cable bundle.

If the last 6 digits of your car's vin# are 238198 or higher, the Delco part # is SK1019.
IF it's 238197 or lower, it's Delco # SK1083.

IF you got the wrong one, it will not register the fuel level correctly. Since the one you bought had to be modified to work, most likely it's the wrong one.

The metal contacts inside the plastic plug on the vehicle get weak and will cause intermittent fuel guage operation.

DOH! Thanks Rich ...Didn't think of the open/weak pins in the connector. :slap:

so move it around with the car on or off

Put the ignition switch in the run position with out starting the car to perform the wiggle test.
