PA resident buying in CA and staying in CA for a year

I am a Pennsylvania resident, but I am going to be going to college in California for the coming year. I want to fly out to CA and then buy a car there, but I will not be driving it back to PA until the end of the school year, at the earliest. So basically, I will be using the car in California for many months, but be a PA resident with a PA driver's license. Is this possible legally? Obviously I will have to transfer the car's title at a place in California, but how will the car's plates, registration, inspection, and insurance work? What are the laws surrounding this issue?
I cannot claim California residency until I have lived there for a year, so that is out of the question.

Its definitely legal. I've seen this many times here in Colorado. I think if you are gonna live there for more than a year, then you'd have to get CA stuff. Then again, my grandma waited several years before changing her Minnesota info to Arizona info when she moved to Phoenix. Pretty sure you are gonna need PA plates. I am not sure if the California office can get stuff from the PA office or not, but it shouldn't be a big deal. Probably could just fax the needed info to the PA office and they mail you plates. All they really need is proof of insurance on the vehicle, possibly a copy of your license, and the title signed to you (have to mail that obviously). I dunno how the insurance would work however but this shouldn't be as big of a hassle as you may think.
