2000 Z71 squeaks in reverse??????

First let me apologize if this topic has been covered before, but I tried a search and came up empty. :rolleyes:

I have a 2000 Z71 that squeaks sort of the way the squeaker on brakes do, but it only happens in reverse and the rate increases as the speed does. I can roll the truck backwards in neutral and the sound is not there. It only happens in reverse. :banghead: Any help would be appreciated.

i have the same problem only in forward ...... when throttle is applied i have a rubbing / squeeking noise , i assume its maybe a U-joint , but not 100% sure.

I had the same problem....It sounded like I had a tire rubbing. Somebody told me it may be a ujoint, but I refused to listen. Guess what??? They were correct....Do yourself a favor, and replace both ujoints at once. I did not and the other went bad within 2 month after the first. I had to go back and forth to the parts store because they had about 4 different ujoints for a 99 silverado. So either buy them all and repalce what you do not use or bring the ujoints into the store after you pulled them out. I got mine from NAPA from another guy here that posted that on this site.....

yea mine was the same thing, it was indeed the u-joint . solved my squeeking problem.

Thanks to all who have replied. Sounds like I know what I will be doing on my next 4 day. I will let you all know if this fixes it.
