i have a 96 jetta manual shift with a 2.o engine . my car will not start well i should say it only seems to start in the morning. i been told that its the ignition switch which seemed logical b/c i did notice that the key seemed to have to turned further when it was starting. yesterday when i was trying to start the car i felt the key getting hot..do i need to change the whole ignition thing or just where you put the key at. has anyone gone through the same thing please advise b/c i been parking on hills for the past two days and haven't been able to turn car off if one is not around

thanks

If your key is getting hot because of a serious short, then you should be blowing fuses.
Try hot wiring it (directly at the starter) and see if that works, if it cranks, start tracing from the starter to your ignition switch. I'd advise getting a service manual before you try to fix the ignition switch. The give some good pointers.

if the key is getting hot its probably because the connection is being made in the igniton but the ignition is bad, thats one thing, if you try to start it but hear a clicking noise its the starter, or the ignition coil
