I just drew a really nice tattoo for a friend of mine, and in return, she picked up a bottle of 70% Absinthe while she was up in Canada this weekend... Gave it to me for free! :sun:

Going to have a good weekend methinks! :licker:

potent is an understatement.

It's like being hit in the head with a lightly flavoured brick.

Spec, remember thats what Luke was drinking that one night.

this thread brings to mind the wonderful words of the late Douglas Adams...

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy also mentions alcohol. It says that the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

It says that the effect of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.

That shit is EVIL!

No wonder it's illegal in the states, holy crap!

When I got home from work last night, I decided to have a little taste. It looks like listerine, and tastes like listerine (only not as good). It's a foul foul drink.

First glass, 3 ounces of Absinthe, Ice-cold water poured over a spoon with an sugar-cube, which is the traditional way to drink it. About halfway through the first glass, I added orange soda just to make it tolerable (that's all I could find to add, although even aftershave would probably make it more pallatable). It did however provide an INSTANT beer coat.

After the first glass I had a really really good buzz going. I felt great, a very different buzz from any beer or other hard alcohol I've ever had. It was alot like being stoned, I just wanted to laugh at everything...

Second glass, 3 ounces of Absinthe, again with the water/sugar method. This time I didn't need to add anything, I barely noticed the burning in my brain. Still felt really good, by the time I finished the glass, I was pretty much wasted, and my apparent happiness had piqued the curiosity of my roommates who decided to sample the stuff.

Third glass, 3 ounces, with sugar. This is when bad things started to happen (and where my recollection starts to fade). Everything I look at seems to move. I was hallucinating that the table kept moving around. There was also a god-awful racket inside my head, caused by the people around me (who at this point were having a great time), like an echo that never fades, and each new sound is repeated endlessly inside my mind until all the different sounds formed a solid wall of audio mayhem. I remember spending alot of time on my bathroom floor, yelling at everyone to shut the fuck up. They responded by mocking me, wich kindof infuriated me, but I was in no condition to do anything about it. The patterns on the walls of the bathroom were definitely moving. I made my way upstairs and tried to pass out, but I couldn't... I had the spins, but these were no ordinary spins, they were full on 360° 3 axis rotations. Back to the bathroom to try and purge the evil from my belly, again no luck. I just remember waking up on the hardwood livingroom floor in my underwear this morning with a very bad hang-over and swearing to God, Allah, or whoever would listen, that I was done with Absinthe.

"After the first glass you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world." -Oscar Wilde

I've still got some left, gonna finish it off on Friday. :D :bloated:

Indeed... Actually ALOT of art has been inspired by the stuff. Ernest Hemmingway, Vincent Van Goh, Oscar Wilde, Baudelaire, Degas, Manet, Toulouse Lautrec, Picasso, and Voltaire (among many others) were all avid Absinthe drinkers and wrote/painted about it.

www.eabsinthe.com

I think you can order it online from here... don't know if they ship to the US though...

Make sure you get the good stuff, there's a couple brands out there that use an inferior wormwood plant, called southern wormwood, but is reputedly not as good. There is a brand that is legal here, but it's only 50% alcohol, and uses the crappy wormwood. Most of the good brands are manufactured in the Czech Republic...

The stuff I had was Hills Absinth:

A little goes a long way!
