98 ultra a/c glitch/problem

Hi everyone, I own a 1998 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with 116k/mi. In this hot weather i just can't get aroun without a/c. The funny thing is that two passenger vents blow cold air and two driver and both rear blow warm air.
I've had two ultra's before and this problem never bothered me.
I don't know what to blame: climate control, crack in the vent tubes?
Any info will be appreciated.

One more thing, the driver side windowis very slow and going off track all the time. I think it's the regulator but I can't seem to find one. I searched online everywhere, even ebay doesn't have it. Anyone knows where to get one?

My '97 Ultra has just developed AC air flow problems almost like your situation. The driver's side isn't very cool, but passenger side is good.

Please let me know what you have discovered.

Thanks.

Ive seen some issues before on this forum..
Perhaps HERE (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=419903&highlight=ac+vent) can help some..

Hope its helpful.

If you have adquate airflow from the mid vents and it is warm on driver’s side and cool on passenger side, more than likely you need some refrigerant added. Fortunately, you have a R-134a system, so this is not an expensive fix.

Thanks Bass, that discussion didn't refer to my symptoms and it is closed to new posts, but it had a nice diagram of the air valves and ideas about getting to the valve switches.

HotZ28, the car cools down good with cold air out the passenger side, and the driver's side has good air volume, but not very cool. I will check refrigerant. I wouldn't have though that would cause this symptom.

My '97 Owner's Manual says: "the system may supply cooler air to the side toward the sun". It has sun sensors on top of the dash that are not blocked from full vision. I supposed that this "sunny side feature" had failed.

Thanks again gentlemen.

Interesting you should mention your 97' Manual..
My 96' data has a diagram of a Passenger/Mix air and driver/mix control air unit behind the glove box. It shows each zone is linkage controlled and adjustable and recommends these linkages be adjusted if there is too much deviance in temperatures. It is also the mount plate for the HVAC programmer box.

This may be worth checking out.

Our '97 Buick Ultra has a manual control at the far right side of the dash borard for the passenger to adjust their side to warmer or cooler, which is probably linkde to those air valves behind the glove box. I haven't done any further checking of the car since I started asking questions on this form. If I make any discoveries, I'll try to share it.
This is an interesting page, It tells how to trouble shoot the climate control. I have not tried it yet. http://www.automotiveforums.com/t304898.html (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t304898.html)

Thanks.

Not to sure about you a/c problem.Mine cools, but when i turn the temp up it still cools.NO HEAT. But under the dash,I can here what sounds like a constant growl or low grinding sound?:banghead:

As for your window problem.Mine was slow up/down.But some light grease fixed that. The window track? Could be jumping out due to the dry rubber.

Part replacement? GO HERE> http://car-part.com/index.htm

If you can't find what you need here.uh,:runaround: Good luck
