So im cruising tween 50-60 on the highway in my dads turbo diesel wagonand i see this ugly canary yellow riced out cavalier.I drop to second(auto tranny) get his attention and hold 60 till he catches up. i proceed to floor it and hes on my tail till i hit 3rd and some boost and then he dissapears has i go up to 80 or 90 when i shut down.
i also saw a blue rice cav but i think when i downshifted to second and he heard the turbo whine he got scared of being beaten by a station wagon.
so cliffnotes my first win:icon16:

wat kinda station wagon is this...
and when you say "down it to second (auto tranny)"
do you mean it was a tiptronic or something or did you floor it to make the car down shift

You don't need a trip-tronic to downshift to second. Now, will the transmission actually shift? That's a whole other story.
Nice kill man!

Congrats man !
And fatkat89, I dont think they had tiptronic on cars back in the 80's. On most autotragic (automatic) cars if you let go of the gas pedal, then stomp on it, the car will usually downshift.

Or... imagine this... he actually downshifted the gear selector to 2nd.
You know, you can do that in an automatic.

it was an 87 mercedes turbo diesel wagon
i downshifted by putting the shifter in gear 2 and i dont think its any worse for the tranny than flooring it and tripping the kickdown switch i just like the feeling of choosing my own gears and yes i hope to get a manual for my next car

ha i guess its race worthy...
but i dont think that the 2nd cavalier driver was intimidated i would've been amused..... but ultimately it was a good kill... by the way hurry up and get another car...
i would be embarrased to drive that thing eventhough it is a silver arrow.

^^yea but thats not a very good thing to do, especially in a nearly 20 year old car.I'm mostly a lurker but this is my first post here. My dad did it in his 72 Mustang all the time. Took awhile but it finally blew the clutch packs out of it. It would shift to 3rd then drop to 2nd.

Actually it is a lot worse for it, you wouldn't believe how many cars come in the shop with damaged transmissions because of this.
Either way it's always good to hear about people beating up on riced out cavaliers...

so is using the kickdown switch also bad for your transmission?

No, the ECM makes adjustments based on all the variables that are going into the transmission downshifting, as opposed to doing it randomly manually...
