Air Conditioner: Kicks in, but no cold air

Any gurus have any ideas?

Hyundai Excel 1994
Checked pressure, was in the proper blue range. Drained off, and refilled just to make sure. When A/C button is pressed on the dash, I can hear the engine idle drop indicating the compressor is kicking in and putting a load on the engine but the air temp never changes coming out the vents. Fuse is good. A/C light even comes on when button is pressed. High pressure hose gets hot when running like it should.. but no cold air?

Thanks for any ideas,

Ron

First of all, thanks for including so much info.

Did you try a vacuuming and/or flushing in between? Evaporators aint what they used to be. Clogged maybe?

without gauges, hard to say, but if you don't properly vacuum the system, you will not only have moisture left over, which is bad, but you'll also have oxygen in teh system, which can greatly effect the performance

Most likely you have a restriction in the system. If its an orifice tube type system, pop it out and look at it. Its the more restrictive part of the system and can give you a hint of whats happening in the rest of the system. If its full of crud, then odds are your system is badly contaminated, but you might be able to get it to work by just replacing the orifce tube, and they are cheap

But I'd still recommend taking it to a shop and getting it properly vacuumed and charged

Hey thanks for the good info. I haven't even unhooked any tubes, I was afraid to get air in the system... a clog, man I hope it's somewhere easy then. So I should bring it to a pro then and let them vacuum it and recharge it properly...

OK, I will do this. Sounds like it's getting over my head now!

Thanks much for the help!
