Wheel Bearing CV joint separation

I went to replace my wheel bearings this past weekend. The passenger side went off with out a hitch, but the drivers side CV shaft would not separate from the bearing. I tried everything from pounding the hell out of the cv shaft to heating up the bearing and using a puller to using a puller with heat and pounding. I eventually removed the steering knuckle with the bearing and CV assembly. I have already damaged the CV beyond repair, but I still need to separate it to get the steering knuckle free. Any ideas?

It seems like there should be a tool like the one someone would use to separate a ball joint. Some sort of fork, but I have not found anything. When I left it on saturday I had soaked the joint/bearing splines in penetrating fluid. Will this thing ever separate?

Can I drill this puppy out?

Since you have removed the steering knuckle with the hub and driveshft as one piece I would take it to a shop that has a hydraulic press and press the hub off. However if you have been beating on the end of the spline enough to mushroom the axle shaft then go directly to junk yard and get a whole used assembly like you removed. If you are lucky it will have a good hub, if not you can get a bargain hub for $82.00 including freight part #1ASHF00021 from www.1aauto.com.

Thanks for the response. After letting it soak in penetrating fluid for a week I went at it again with a 5 ton puller and it came apart.
