98 Silverado Won't Start

I have a 98 with a 5.7 liter motor with 240,000 km. Last week the fuel pump went and i replaced it along with the tank and it has ran well since. I have not used it in 2 days and went to start it and it would not go, it was just roll over continously.

I pulled the plugs and they are wet with fuel. The plugs are new Champ plat's so that is not an issue. My wires are about 2 years old and they will be replaced asap but I have a gut feeling this is not the issue. I have had this happen to me before in the spring and it was wet outside just like the last few days.

Does anyone know what the real issue could be or have experienced the same thing?

Also, what is the best way to "unflood" this motor, last time I had to use a torch to ignite the fuel in the cylinder - it was a last resort I was in the bush many miles from home. Now the truck is again in the bush just not so far - 50kms!

Water in the cap and rotor?

If it turns over to well it might be the timing chain.

I pulled the cap off and there was no moisture that I could see. What made you think of the timing chain??

Your mileage. Timing chaines last about 100,000 mi. for me.

Small block chevy timing chains usually last longer than the truck. My 97 with the 5.7 sat for a few days in the rain one time and when I went to start it the truck barely started and misfired like crazy. New cap and rotor fixed it up. Make sure you use AC delco parts.

I have found out about not using AC Delco or champ ignition products. I have discovered the hard way about using Bosch plugs and wires - JUNK! Mine were installed less than 2 yrs ago and it turns out this was the problem.

I went into the bush yesterday morning and replaced wires and plugs - Bosch brand - with Champs. My truck started in 1/2 a turn.

I have never heard about the timing chain thing, glad to hear yours was not the issue.
