HAHAHA Hell yeah! It's been a while since I've had a race worth mentioning.
I will cut out the crap and get straight to the race.
I drive an 04 Cavalier and I was cruising around behind this nice Red 1998ish(not sure of the year, but I know the body style) Cobra Mustang. I was waiting for a good spot to race him. I figured he would punch it as we were making a left onto this uphill straightaway from a red light. I wanted to get beside him and go from a roll, but before I could catch up I hear him floor it. I was already 2 or 3 cars back ,but I figured I could run him down. I'm already in gear so I roll on the throttle to control wheelspin and then mash it in second gear. I'm cathing u[ fast when I shift into 3rd! By the time I hit about 70 I am right beside him. He looks over with a look of disbelief (:eek7:)as I pass him...lol ahhh SATIFACTION!!! lol I cut it off at the end of third gear. I figured that was far enough.
So we end up beside each other at the next red light and the kid driving was completely surprised and asked me what all I had done. Actually I think he said "What the hell do you have done to that thing!?!?" lol I told him and he said "it's freakin fast! He was very nice about it. He was more impressed than anything. I told him he had a nice looking mustang and then went our seperate ways...
I kinda thought his car would be faster, but those were the slower years for the mustangs and I know he wasn't supercharged. I'm not sure what the difference is between the cobra's and the GT's are for those years...
1997-1998 I'll find out what year exactly next time I see him around.
Whatddya think?

my ten year old brother can drive a mustang cobra and evn beat dale earnhardt(i think that the correct spelling) in a cavalier

he should give us horse power and torque figures. the turbocharged part makes it more believable however i dont believe how effortless he made it seem

hehe, I knew everyone was going to call bs...lol I live in Pa near pittsburgh if anyone wants to run. I race at PRP sometimes if anyone's in the area.
I've only been to the track once with the turbo in, but I managed a 13.9@100mph with a headwind and at a track that is way above sea level. Plus it was hot out that day. My buddy has an 1998 6 speed LS1 Camaro. And he only pulls a car or two on the highway from 65-105.
Next time I"ll get it on Video for all you nonbelievers. I'm not talking about a supercharged Cobra here... You guys are giving mustang too much credit IMHO...I walked away from a newer style 99-04 Gt on the highway too.
Oh yeah... and I turned up the boost a pound or two since I was at the track.

I'm not hating... I just called BS because knowing the single fact that your Cavy is turbo'ed, doesn't give me enough solid evidence that you could've beaten him, especially when you said that he had a 2 car jump on you, and you cought up...
Justify yourself, and lets see some numbers...

I thought it was the last cobra (03-04, iirc). You say it was the one before it so I guess its more believable, but still...a little far fetched I'd say.
Edit: Just did some research on the #'s:
04 Cavalier: Engine horsepower 140-hp @ 5,600 rpm
Engine torque 150 lbs.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm
Curb weight 2,749 lbs
98.5 Cobra: Engine horsepower 305-hp @ 5,800RPM
Engine torque 300 lb.-ft. @ 4,800RPM
Curb weight 3,446 lbs.
Guess its possible...

it's cool. I would call bs too if someone said a cavalier beat a cobra stang.
I don't have any dyno numbers, but the guy I bought this turbo from made about 200hp at 6psi on an Ecotec. So I'm hoping I'm around 225 horsepower at the wheels right now. Like I said I'll bring the video camera next time I go to the track or something.

go back and check my thread again and get your facts straight because i said i got destroyed by the porsche ,

i beat the 300zx because of street traffic,
and i beat the lancer by feet because he mis shifted.
the only tru kill that i said i had was against the "ricer" civic.

Punching in some numbers in this HP calculator on this page (http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm), and going by the time and speed cavaliercrazy has posted earlier, based on a vehicle weight (with driver) of say 2929 pounds (Going by the curb weight stated on pimp349's post and estimating 180 pounds for the driver just as a ballpark number) the 1/4 mile trap speed (100 MPH) figures out that he's pushing 229 whp / 270 HP at the crank, and based on the 1/4 mile ET (13.9) it figures he's pushing 216 whp / 254 HP at the crank, so lets say he's averaging 222.5 whp and about 262 HP at the crank, running the car on a hot day at 1180 feet above sea level at PRP.
Plus he added more boost since then so even those numbers are no longer valid and it's anybody's guess what the HP numbers are now without another time slip or a dyno run.
Consequentially, I would believe he gave the Cobra a good run for the money and most likely did beat him going by those numbers, especially if the cobra was stone stock and the driver was heavier than 180 pounds.
Admitedly at first read, one would think a stock car to those not knowing it was turbocharged (including me) would think that and call BS, but after the fact being known it is turboed and taking the time to do a little research with the numbers (Except the actual true vehicle weight with the driver) that are given, indeed one could be led to believe what happened actually did happen.
So I'm gonna say, good kill dude!
And sorry for the long winded post :)

He said it was a 97 or 98 Cobra.
The 97-98 Cobra's were not supercharged, they had DOHC heads on the 4.6 modular engine for a 305 HP rating, quite a HP gain over the standard 215-225 HP rating of the SOHC GT engine.

i dont think its debatable anymore ...
we've been provided with credible info and it seems to check out with most people but now the thread is about mustang years and trim levels and not about a considerably modified cavalier toasting a mustang....
its not impossible for a tuned cavalier to beat any stock production mustang that doesnt possess forced induction...by the way if somebody lives near him, test his machine and find out for sure...

No offence, but we were both at the track that day and he only pulled a 13.5 to my 13.9 and I had some extra tools in my car because it was the first time at the track with the turbo and I was relearning how the car ran with boost. He has a K&N and an exhaust.
there would be way more than 2-3 cars between a 13.0 compared to a 13.9! more like 8. When I'm at the track it seems like every tenth is about a car.
Not that it makes my story any more believable, but I think that mustang had an exhaust and maybe even intake... It didn't sound very stock. I have to find out...
Anyways, Thanks guys!!! :grinyes:

Sure it's debatable, the thread is about a Cobra Mustang vs a Turboed Cavilier, a comment was made that if the Cobra wasn't Supercharged then it was a GT, I checked out an automotive publication that covers all american made vehicles up to 2002 and posted what I found, certainly within the topic of discussion. Along with the numbers of the possible output of the Cavilier I posted from the information given out on the thread.

Well I am about 2 hours north of him off the main interstate, I'm sure there is people closer, but suppose I could take my 17.0 @ 80 MPH fat ride 96 Chrysler LHS down there and take him on then come back home and report about how many buslengths my ass got kicked by the time I hit 60 MPH!
Better yet, you PayPal me enough gas money to get down there and back (about 30 bux should do it, well, make it 50 he'll need gas too.) and I'll hook up with the dude, we'll have our little race, and i'll even take my camera with me and velcro it to the dash and video it then upload it on youtube or somewhere just so you can see him flat out kicking my ass! Better yet, send 100 bux and we'll do it at PIR then there is the added bonus of the time slips to show for the run plus the video, hell i'll even narrate what I see. Whatda ya say?
On second thought forget it, you probably wouldn't believe it anyhow even with video footage and the slips of paper not to mention the waste of time and gas for the parties involved and the difference betwrrn the vehicles. Now if my son gets his 89 Daytona Shelby done with the 16 valve DOHC Head hybrid conversion then that may be a worthy adversary.

the body style for those years went from 94-98
the 94 cobra only had 240hp....in 98 they bumped it up to 305
there's not really much of a way to tell if it was a 94 cobra or a 97-98 cobra
if he's running 13.9 he should have killed most cobra's of that year...unless it was atcually a 98
very justifiable kill

Actually you can tell the difference between a 94/95 and a 96/98, tail lights are different, hood is different, rear bumper is different...... sound is quite different. Also, there is much debate about the HP rating, on the 5.0 Cobra. The parts on that engine were called GT40 parts, nothing to do with a GT40 but they were designed to add over 40 HP to a GT in 93 which was rated at 225. It is commonly accepted that it was more like 270 coming out of the cobra in 93-95. Having raced against both types, I can attest to which ones were more of a threat on the streets....money is on the 5.0 especially when you start talking modifications.

The parts on that engine were called GT40 parts, nothing to do with a GT40 but they were designed to add over 40 HP to a GT in 93 which was rated at 225. It is commonly accepted that it was more like 270 coming out of the cobra in 93-95. Having raced against both types, I can attest to which ones were more of a threat on the streets....money is on the 5.0 especially when you start talking modifications.

i gotcha...to the average joe though, they can mistake it for the same thing, especially if there not the type to pay attention to mustangs in the first place..know what i mean?...they still look very similar
and strange, i raced i 94 cobra and killed it pretty good...the 98 cobra has been the only one to give me a run..and a good one it was

sounds so sweet. One of the best parts about the FI experience has to be the sound of a high pitch whine or a nice BOV... I wouldn't know :(

haha i knew it was gonna be that video before i even clicked on the link. disgusting car,, as for the boosted cavie vs the cobra i definately believe it. the older mustangs aren't anything special. one of my dad's co-workers has a 96 drop-top cobra and that thing is slow as balls. stock for stock an 03/04 cobra would hand a 90's cobra it's ass.

It would take a fair amount of mods for a 96 cobra to even hang with a 03/04.
