4 wheel air ride?

Hi I'm confused about the air ride system on a 1997. Is the front end using the air ride system as well or is it just the rear of the car?
I need to replace the Air compressor because it is making a loud noise. Now thinking maybe convert to springs on the back as the cost of the compressor seems to be a pretty big junk of the air system and I did not get any receipts of any work having been done on the Air system, it will soon all need to be replaced. Might be better just to do away with the air ride.

Is it hard to do just the back for one guy in a drive way?

If I replace just the rear end will the front end still work?

Does front end need compressor?

Thanks

All four wheels on the Continental have Air Suspension. The Town Car has only the rears.

The Compressor (there's only one) is for all four wheels (the whole system).
If all four wheels are holding the correct level, and the compressor only runs at startup and then only occasionally, a compressor investment might be your best option at this time.

If your rears are leaking, I can see how you might have come to the questions posted. Some folks speak highly of the conversion, and some folks wish they had the air suspension rather than coils. It really depends on how you drive. If you want a Lincoln ride, coils aren't the way to go. If you want a tighter performance ride you might like coils.

The conversions have instruction sheets for the DIY'er, the Town Car looks pretty simple, I haven't looked at the sheets for the Conti. AmericanAir and ArnottIndustries are the top sellers of all these parts; check their websites for prices and instructions.

I'm not sure if you can completely 'fool' the system into 'thinking' there's rears after you've removed them. The Height Sensors should be left installed to try to pull this off. If successful, then Yes, the system should take care of just the fronts. This might be a good question for Arnott or American, they have helplines too.

Yes, the fronts will still need a Compressor.

That is just the info I needed thank you! I went to ArnottIndustries and they have all the manuals posted for download. The system seems sound but for the air compressor. You know how things go you repair one thing and bam 2 weeks later some thing else goes bad.

Ok one Air compressor coming up.
