I'm not much of a mechanically inclined person and as such I'm not entirely sure where I should begin.. I've come up with this crazy idea that it might be worth the time and effort into pulling the exising (stock) engine and all the accessories that are taking up space under the hood (A/C primarily) in my 85 tc and replacing it with a diesel, anybody have any thoughts or suggestions for me? I'd like it to at least be close in power if not an improvement.

Eh seems like a novel idea but all in all is really worth it? I'd say no.

Unless you have a large amount of Money/Ingenuity of putting an engine thats never been offered or put into the panther (Crown Victoria/Town Car/Grand Marquis) chassis and a shop to work with the odds are against you.

I'd say keep the car running fine or do a pretty well documented 5.0L HO swap. Read http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00065.html. Much more feasble and you'll see better fuel economy if you keep your foot out of it and better over all drivability with 225 HP or more if you decide to mod the motor...

Why not just buy one with a Diesel already installed from the factory?
