P0700

I have a 98 Plymouth breeze. When I'm driving, there is a sudden jolt. The check engine light comes on and it feels as if the emergency brake is on. The RPM's get high and there is a loud humming sound. Even when I am at a standstill, there is some bucking.This problem does not happen all the time.If I let the car sit for a while, the check engine light goes off and everything is fine, for days sometimes. I took the car into AAMCO and the technician drove the car and stated that it does not seem to be a tranny problem, but I got a diagnostic reading of P0700. My father is a mechanic and thinks that it may be the ignition coils. Please help.
