I have a 1991 Dodge Stealth, with a Mitsubishi 3000 engine. I have a problem and I need help.
It's my first car and I admit I know little to nothing about cars, so please, laugh if you want, but I need help:
I needed oil yesterday, I went to the store, got a 5 gt. bottle, went out to the parking lot, and put all five quarts of oil into it, stupid I know, at the time I thought it was ok. The engine started smoking and the exhaust was pouring smoke, I drove it all the way home (10 miles) and today, a friend emptied all the oil out(all 8 quarts, turns out i didnt need oil after all), and put the right amount in. Now here is my problem; My engine still smokes, not as much as before, but it still smokes, I seemed to have spilt oil on the engine itself yesterday and I was wondering, how long will it take to stop smoking, and/or what can I do to clean the oil off, get the smell out, and stop the smoking?!
Thank you, and I know, I'm an idiot. If I didn't know what I was doing, I should have asked, but I REALLY need help, I need to bring my car in for an inspection tomorrow, and I would be very appreciative if you guys helped me, thanks.

correct me if i'm wrong but you emptied the entire bottle in without draining the old oil ? wow, i'm glad i never was THIS bad. why the hell did you think you needed oil in the first place? lmao
anyways to your problem; did you find out what kind of oil your car takes? for example my skyline takes 10w40, did you put in correct type? that can be bad if you didnt.... but doesnt really matter considering how horrible all of the extra oil was for your piston rings. without a doubt it will have hit them, and the smoke would be the result of oil leaking into the combustion chamber (amongst other possible things). i would say 10 miles is enough to do the trick. to replace piston rings is probably the cost of a new engine if yours is none turbo. my advice? sell the front wheel drive whale and buy a honda.
