Jimmy questions...

Hello,
I have several questions on my 1999 GMC Jimmy 4.3L.

1. What grade of oil should I use in this engine? Does 5w-30 cover it?

2. My Jimmy makes a constant loud clicking when started. Clicks while sitting in park and throughout all gear ranges then seems to quiet/stop after driving a while. The clicking speeds up as the engine accelerates. Any idea what this could be? It's really starting to worry me.

3. My A/C Compressor won't engage is any setting. What would cause this and how can I fix it?

4. What type of ATF fluid should I use? What type of T-Case fluid should I use?

5. My rear wiper drips washerfluid constantly and it drains my washerfluid tank. What the heck is wrong here?

Sorry about the newbie questions, my Jimmy didn't come with a manual. Thanks for your help! Please reply soon! :)

COLOR][/COLOR]Hello,

5w-30 will work for you

2. My Jimmy makes a constant loud clicking when started. Clicks while sitting in park and throughout all gear ranges then seems to quiet/stop after driving a while. The clicking speeds up as the engine accelerates. Any idea what this could be? It's really starting to worry me.
Can't tell you exactly what it is but it could be many things. if you haven't worked on engines before, get a mechanic to take a look. It may be as simple as a valve slapping.

3. My A/C Compressor won't engage is any setting. What would cause this and how can I fix it?
You're AC freon level may be low. you can pick up a charge kit at Autozone and a couple of cans of R134 and do it yourself. I wouldn't recommend more than 2 cans to start off. This will let you know if it's the freon level. After that, it's time to start looking for a leak in the system.

4. What type of ATF fluid should I use? What type of T-Case fluid should I use?
Tyhpically it asks for DEXRON 3 or higher. Your car manual should tell you. Buy one if you don't have one. They really do help.

5. My rear wiper drips washerfluid constantly and it drains my washerfluid tank. What the heck is wrong here?
Again, I can't help you here but just start looking at the system. Where is the pump located at? How is the fluid supposed to be stopped? Does it have a valve that should close?

Sorry about the newbie questions, my Jimmy didn't come with a manual. Thanks for your help! Please reply soon! :)

Good luck with the vehicle, I have a 93 S10 Blazer and I love it. Not too many issues and it has 160k miles.

1) 5w30 is fine, just make sure that you use a quality oil.

2) Could be valves. A lot of cold start tapping problems are caused by using a substandard oil filter, such as those made by FRAM. Another common cause is a leaking intake gasket allowing coolant into the crankcase.

3) Could be lots of things, low on refridgerant or a faulty pressure switch are a couple possibilties. It's best to check the pressure with a decent gauge set before adding anything to the system. Adding without testing can cause permanent damage.

4) For ATF use DEX III. For the Transfer case the fluid depends on which one you have. If you have the NVG233 part time 4wd T-case (switch on dash with 3 buttons) you can use DEX III. If you have the NVG236 Auto T-case (switch on dash has 4 buttons) you will need to use the blue Auto-Trac II fluid available from the dealer.

5) You'll just have to check it out, could be as simple as a little trash holding the solenoid open.
