wierd question about 92 towncar

the other day i was washing my car and i realized that the grill on my 1992 towncar is spring loaded. My friend said it was so it wouldnt break when you hit a pedestrian, and i know that isnt right. so i was wondering why the grill is spring loaded.

I always figured there was no other way to mount it.. but, now that you mention the anti-breaking properties, that sounds good too :)

The bumpers are spring loaded too... maybe the grille was designed to move rather than break, course that doesn't help the grille frame :screwy:

I'd wager its spring loaded incase you hit something (although if you hit something that high you'll probably have more problems) it gives instead of breaks into tiny pieces....

But Ford™ needs your money incase you have an accident because you should buy only Ford™ original parts!!!!!

(like any of these items are still in stock nowadays anyhow, and if they are they want an amount close to or above the money you'd get from remortgaging your home! )

I'd wager its spring loaded so that it does not need to be screwed down. If it were screwed down, when the wind pushes against the thin crap plastic grill it does not stress crack around the mounting screws.

If it was bolted solid it will break with the movement of the car. So Lincoln put springs to handle the shock .

Ford dont care if ya break parts taking them off. If ya run over Gradma and break it tough luck.

Bill on left fender has his a little high. Joes on right fender comes in low

The guy on hood is real anal and is dead nuts all the time but is always a little forward.

Ford has 500 grilles in a basket with broken clips. And a guy going on a nut cause he always gets blamed for the f ups.

Springs make for a better fit when things dont fit.

haha i actually pulled the whole thing apart to see how it worked...doesnt seem like they put alot of thought into it. how would you go about mounting a billet grill? is that even possible?

100 percent silicone from Home depot is Clear and real strong

Couple Dabs here and there will hold plenty good

I always put a couple screws for safety
