The jetta crapped out on me last night after hanging out with some friends.:banghead: I was almost home and the car went into limp mode (5psi boost) and when I would try to accellerate at a low RPM the car started to shake violently. The check engine light came on and started blinking. I managed to drive the car home very slowly and there was a heavy gas smell. I stayed up to almost 4AM trying to research and find out what happened and some guys told me it was the coil packs. I hope that is was cause if it's something major I'm gonna be pissed off :banghead:

Flashing CEL = don't drive the car, get it towed.
Get the codes read before you do anything else. My guess: misfire.

on GM cars a flashing Cell means multiple cylinder missfires.

I drove it back home cause I was less than a block away so I turned off the car waited till the flashing stopped and drive it back home at less than 10 mph. But yeah now I gotta order the coil packs which I'm searching for the best place to order them from right now.
Oh and yeah I was only running on 3 cylinders...::Shoots multiple rounds into his jetta::

How do you know it's the coil packs?
Did you read the codes? Or just going by what somebody on the internet says? I sure as hell wouldn't trust most folks on the internet. Heck, I don't trust my own posts.

Before you order new coil packs better be sure. My 1.8t Passat (different set up I know) had this happen and it turned out to be the Ignition Module (also called something more PC) which shuts off the #2 cylinder and causes the limp mode and flashing CEL. I drove the car a block like you did, had my mechanic tow it to his shop, drop in a new module and we've put on another 40-50k miles since then. So don't be so sad, dude...

Well, that's a valid point... but it could be something entirely.
Hope it works.

okay update now that im at a computer.
I bought the coil packs from the dealer (guys on the forums told me they run for 70 a piece, dealer sold them to me for 30 a piece, looks like alot of people have been screwed) And I installed them. 4 brand new packs I have pics so I will post them up later. It solved the problem of the shaking so the car is running smooth, but now weve encountered another problem, boost is stuck in limp mode. I put everything to stock settings but left the CAI and it's still in limp mode. And now I'm stumped. We took apart the intercooler to clean that out as well which should be cleaned since oil tends to get inside and I am still stuck in limp mode. I reset the ECU with the battery and brake but still nothing good. ::Sigh:: Damn german engineering...

Update #2
Well since the car was in limp mode I decided to check out to see if maybe it had to do with the new coil packs.
Nope! After snooping around under the car, it was night by the way and i was using my phone as a light, I found that the intercooler sensor wasnt connected. I started laughing like crazy cause in our rush on satuarday to put the car back together cause it was going to rain we forgot to connect it.
I connected it back, reset the ECU and took it for a spin. Boost shot up more than it was at before and alot quicker, I figured it was due to cleaning the intercooler. so yeah the car is doing awsome, and as promised here are the pics
These are the coil packs that needed to be replaced.

Yeah I thought it was something serious so I gave my girl a choice, we can get another car but then we would have to put off moving in together or you make due with it for now and we move in and wait till the car is completely paid off.
But nothing is wrong now, just gotta replace one more hose but nothing really major.
