I have a 2001 Buick LeSabre that keeps shutting down for no aparent reason. I changed the CrankShaft Sensor about 1 year ago because it was shutting down at traffic lights or going down the highway at 65 mph, speed didn't matter. Well, its happening again on a daily basis. As long as I would wait about 2 minutes the car would start up again and go. I have had it not start twice for about 30 to 60 minutes. I am at wits end with this cars problem. Could there be something else causing it to shutdown? Is there a low fuel sensor in the tank sending the wrong message? Please help if you can. Also, the check engine light IS NOT coming on and there are NO CODES to read to determine what the problem may be. If I try to start the car before the 2 minute waitng period, it will just crank and not fire. All help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKYOU

Welcome to AF.

Have you run a check of fuel pressure at the front fuel injector rail Schrader valve to see if fuel supply system is good and pressure in specs. It is possible you have another crank position sensor problem. What brand sensor did you use when it was replaced a year ago?

I had the same problem a few months ago, I also installed a new crank sensor, but the problem was that the crank sensor wires were damage some inches before the plug and this made a wrong signal. I cut them and replace for new wires and the problem was resolved.

No I have not checked that. I used an after market from Pep Boys the first time but went and picked up a new one from the Buick dealer, will install on Sunday afternoon. Thanks for your response.

This problem I put in the UNsafe car mode..:banghead:

Troubleshooting this problem is usually a Fuel/Spark decision.:grinyes:.
Which one is missing?:screwy:
Hopefully you can have someone crank the engine and check for spark when in the fail mode. If you have spark, direct your attention to fuel problems.

There are easy ways to hint the Crank Sensor is a problem. First, noting that the engine is most often hot when the engine dies, and if so, cooling it with water sprayed at the 3 o'clock position on the harmonic balancer wheel as best you can and see if you get it to start. Repeating this a couple times may convince you the problem is in that area. My vehicle's CPS never failed while it was raining.. :screwy:

I have let vehicle run in park in a driveway or such and let it get hot, go do something else and listen for the car to quit.
Hopefully it will fail there and allow a troubleshoot easier..
