I have an 88 2wd. First of all, my parking brake light is always on. Second, once in a while I will get out of my truck and notice the brake lights are on. Then I will pump the pedal once, and they go off. Any suggestions???

bad brake light switch possibly ?...also another option could be the master cylinder itself is sticking every once in a while and causing the lights to stay on... is the pedal always firm while driving ?? someone else should chime in shortly

If your truck has rear wheel ABS the "brake" light could indicate a problem with that system. Or it could indicate a leak thru the proportioning valve in the front or rear brake system or a bad proportioning valve. Or it could be the switch on the parking brake out of adjustment. The brake lights on is probably the brake pedal switch or brake pedal not returning to its proper position. You can test that by pulling up on the pedal, instead of pumping it, and see what happens

Let us know.

The brake light switch is probably the culprit. The spring in it is worn out, taht would be my guess. I don't think these trucks have a brake light switch on the master cylinder do they?

well, I replaced the light switch due to some other problems, and now the brake dummy light went out. Maybe that was the problem? I will wait and see. Thanks for the input.
