ok so i got some stuff done to my car..was wondering what anyone predicts my car will run...

first off i have a 98 3000gt base model 5 speed..i read in the FAQ that they run about 16.4 stock or something like that..well i have port and polish done, obx long tube headers, borla cat back ( vr4 one for less restriction ), injen short ram intake..msd ingnition coil and spark plug wires, stage 2 clutch just put in 3000 miles ago, and i think thats it...so what you guys think i should run? im hoping for low 15s..my cousin has a 2001 cavalier z24 and he ran 15.7 with just an intake and fart can..and i know im faster then him..anyone out there run there cars to give me an idea????

if you run 16.4 stock, with those mods, you should run anywere from 16.0 to 15.8

nah.im pretty sure i can run it faster then that..like i said my cousins cavi ran 15.7 and ive raced him before and im quicker no doubt..

is your car a SOHC or DOHC?

if DOHC i'd say you could probably break 15 and get into the high 14s.

its sohc sadly..but i think i could hit low 15s..im going to the tracks next week with it..so ill keep ya posted on it..

deff can get 15 i had a 97 sohc and my best time bone stock was a 15.7, and my car had 140k on it, but im also at the track 4 nights a week...so it depends

ok so i ran my car a lebanon valley dragway..in new york the other day..only got to run my car 3 times..my best time was 16.125 @ 88mph..now i was disapointed at that time obviously..i know the mph is good enough for low 15s, my launches sucked, i didnt get enough runs in to get the launching down..i would just spin it off the line and by the time i caught it was to late to make a good run..what i would do for my launch is rev it up to about 2k rpms then release the clutch tryin not to spin the tires..any pointers on better launching?

Practice, thats about it. My best trap was 90 and that was with a 15.5. The only way I am going to get any lower et's is with DR's, solid motor mounts, and just a flat out better run.

hey guys..thats a pic of me at the tracks in the 3000gt..what you think of my gt? if only she were a bit quicker..but she looks intimidating..hey quick question..when i got home i saw that my main 02 senor wasnt plugged in..that was what my check engine light was...would that do anything to make me run slower? maybe throw off air to fuel ratios or anything?

Its a possibility... but did your car "feel" slower than normal? Does it feel stronger now? If not then I dont see it helping any now that its pluged in. Are you sure it was an AF sensor and not just a post precat sensor>

well it was horrible from the 1st to 2nd gear shift..bogged way down ruining my 60ft time..( 2.4 was my best 60 ft. ) which in turn killed my run..if i could get my 60 ft down to 2 flat..should be able to get a good run in..

You wont get a 2 flat 60' with a SOHC FWD unless you run DR's or slicks. Best Ive ever pulled on street tires was 2.2 and I was told thats amazing.

well when i did my 2.4 it felt like crap..i was barley moving..spun the tires the whole way basically.i could see 2 flat being possible, maybe if you get lucky..but ide take 2.2

Stealthee

I did 2.3 with spinning like crazy and felt balls to the wall and I know 2.2 is all Im getting. 2 tenths is a HUGE difference in 60'.

ya i know the difference between a 2.4 to 2.2 or even lower is a big difference..im planning on going back to the tracks in a few weeks, im curious to see if that unplugged sensor did anything..also my exhaust was leaking back where the headers meet the borla..the bolts werent tightened so i had a mega air leak there..also i was told running no air filter should help a lil? so all those factors should help a tad?

If you have an open element filter I wouldnt go thru the trouble of pulling it off. It might net you .00001. My exhaust was loose as hell lol. All 4 bolts around the "cat" were loose. The whole exhaust system pivoted on the cat. LOL Fixed that and my car is too quiet now. LOL

lol same thing with me..i tightened the bolts back up now my car is super quite..its decent when im on it sound wise..but idle is real quite

today i decided to put some use to all the extra parts i had laying around...i took my extra intake manifold and a throttle body from a dohc, which are nearly 1/4 in. bigger then sohc ones..and i bored the manifold to match the size of the throttle body..i noticed small improvments in throttle responce..havnt really got on it yet to test any real power gains from it..a lil louder in sound perhaps..should help my port and polished heads get some more air tho! i would think..

Ive had that done for a long time now. ;) But yeah the SOHC TB is 54 mm and the DOHC TB is 60 mm so 6 mm is just shy of 1/4"

LOL I had to edit it because I put 64 mm for the SOHC TB at first :p

yes..did you notice any gains in any way??? what else you got done stealthee? any little tricks you have done to your car to get some sort of something out of it? you seem to know your stuff

My dad runs 12.25 average with his 1978 Dodge Challenger. 11.98 is his best time to date. I like it because it is different.............I haven't seen anyone drag race a 1978 Challenger yet and haven't even seen a 1978 car in general get under 12 seconds.

Not many people have seen a '78 challenger so i get this a lot. It is originally a four cylinder car but my dad has a 340 small block in it right now and soon to be a 440 big block

The point he was tryng to make was... WTF does a 78 Challenger have to do with a SOHC 3000gt and its quarter mile times?

Have you tryed playing around with tire pressures lowering them in the front and seeing how it goes i did with the eclipse and i noticed a differnce in the tire pressure that it had and 35pounds then went to 30 but it seemed to low and not as quick. But just a though to play around with.

Btw what is the record for 3/S non turbo???

Whos cares?! Muhahahaha! :D

I think it's low 14's off spray. Don't know exactly though.

Stealthee

20-25 psi is the place to be. 30 is way too high on street tires for drag racing. Hell 35 is max pressure you want to run anyway on the street.

As for non turbo record Terry ran a 12.4 on spray so he has the non turbo (but no NA ;))record. Drew ran a 14.1 I beleive completely NA

Im not sure about the NA record but the Fwd record is 10.1. Kind of off topic but what the heck.
